Types of Tiles There are many different types of tiles suitable for different surfaces and materials, as different types of tile can create different styles and finishes. I stock a range of different tiles to suit all requirements, and if I do not have your preferred one I will order it in for you. My stock includes:
Ceramic Tiling Mosaic Floor Tiling Mosaic Wall Tiling Quarry Tiling Ceramic Tiles Porcelain Tiles Natural Stone Tiles Marble Tiles Travertine Tiles Granite Tiles
Porcelain tiles are one of the most popular types of tiles, and they are fired at a very high temperature compared to ceramic tiles. This means they are denser and harder, making them resistant to scratches and strong against high temperatures. Porcelain tiles are also stain resistant and do not absorb water, making them suitable for use in bathrooms.
Granite is a popular tile material as it is durable and versatile, and as it is not porous it is suitable for use in bathrooms and kitchens. Additionally, granite is a silicate, and is not prone to staining and absorption.
Marble tiles are formed under high pressure and heat, and are a unique design that features patterns of colour and veins. They are sealed for maximum stain resistance and to make the cleaning of them easier. Marble, as a material, is a metamorphic rock that is a type of limestone that mainly features calcium carbonate.
Travertine is a sedimentary rock that is composed of calcium carbonate, and it needs to be sealed for maximum stain resistance. You can choose travertine in a range of colours, including red, white, cream and beige.
Preparing The Tiling Surface Before carrying out tiling, it is important to prepare the surface to achieve the best finish possible. I supply all of the necessary materials for the project, including the waterproofing compounds, glues, adhesives, tools and sealants. Before carrying out the tiling, I carry out the boarding, plastering, levelling and the removal of old products and decorations.
The first process I take to begin the tiling project is removing all the dust, dirt, wallpaper, flaking paint and existing tiles. Then I fill in any holes in the plaster using a suitable filler, and level the surface out.
Concrete floors can also be levelled out using a self-levelling compound that spreads across the floor on its own, however this may take time to dry, and can pose a safety risk if not done correctly. I then give the surface a dusting over and apply the necessary primer, to give the tiling the best and smoothest finish possible.
Wet Rooms Wet rooms are becoming a more popular solution for modern bathrooms for many reasons, as they are an effective way of adding value to a property , creating additional space and personalising your home. Before installing a wet room, it is important to waterproof the whole bathroom, to prevent moisture and water from penetrating through the walls and damaging the structural integrity of the house. Waterproofing also protects any grout that is in the walls, as it is a highly porous material. I render your whole bathroom and install tanking to your plasterboard, cement, timber boards, concrete or tile backing boards, to reduce the risk of mould building up. The floor of a wet room is sloped to allow the water to flow down the drain, and I can install a glass screen to separate the shower enclosure from the rest of the room, keeping the water contained within this area. I provide wall tiling for wet rooms, for either part of the room or the whole room depending on your preferred design. Some clients choose to have underfloor heating installed in their wet room as an additional design feature. Wet rooms are great value for money, and provide easy access to the bathroom facilities for people with limited mobility.
